About the Position
Sage Rental Services is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our team and maintain, troubleshoot, and repair diesel-powered equipment used in industrial pump rental, dewatering, and bypass applications.
This position is primarily focused on diesel engine maintenance and repair, including preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and replacement of common engine components such as starters, alternators, fuel pumps, and related systems. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working on diesel engines and understands the importance of keeping equipment reliable, safe, and ready for operation.
Experience with pumps and pump systems is a plus, but not required. We are looking for someone with a strong diesel mechanical background, good organizational skills, and the ability to create, manage, and complete work orders accurately.
This position also includes a rotating on-call schedule for after-hours and weekend service needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventive maintenance (PM) on diesel engines and diesel-powered equipment.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel engine issues.
- Replace and repair common engine components, including starters, alternators, fuel pumps, belts, filters, and related parts.
- Perform basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting on diesel-powered equipment.
- Inspect equipment and identify maintenance needs before failures occur.
- Create, update, and close work orders with accurate descriptions of repairs, labor, parts used, and maintenance performed.
- Manage work orders to ensure repairs are completed, documented, and communicated properly.
- Maintain accurate service records and equipment maintenance histories.
- Assist with troubleshooting and repairs on pumps and associated equipment as needed.
- Respond to service calls during assigned on-call rotations, including evenings and weekends.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow company safety procedures and equipment maintenance standards.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience repairing and maintaining diesel engines is required.
- Experience performing diesel engine preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of diesel engine components and common mechanical failures.
- Ability to diagnose and repair issues involving starters, alternators, fuel systems, and related engine components.
- Experience creating, documenting, and managing work orders or maintenance records.
- Must provide and maintain your own mechanic's tools and toolbox.
- Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
- Ability to work independently, troubleshoot problems, and manage multiple repair priorities.
- Willingness to participate in a rotating on-call schedule, including nights and weekends when assigned.
- Experience maintaining diesel-powered pumps, industrial equipment, generators, or rental equipment.
- Familiarity with centrifugal pumps, trash pumps, or dewatering equipment.
- Experience with diesel engine diagnostic tools and basic electrical testing.
- Experience working in industrial, construction, equipment rental, or field service environments.
Work Schedule & On-Call Requirements
This is a full-time position with regular maintenance and repair responsibilities. Mechanics participate in a rotating on-call schedule covering weekdays and weekends to support equipment breakdowns and customer service needs outside normal business hours.
Candidates must be dependable, responsive during their assigned on-call periods, and willing to assist with troubleshooting and repairs when needed.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive hourly pay based on experience.
- Health insurance benefits.
- 401(k) retirement benefits.
- Opportunity to work on industrial diesel-powered equipment and expand your mechanical skills.
We are looking for a dependable, hands-on diesel mechanic who takes pride in their work and understands the importance of equipment reliability. The right candidate can troubleshoot an engine problem, complete the repair correctly, and document the work thoroughly.
If you have solid diesel engine repair experience, take ownership of your work orders, and are comfortable supporting a team that depends on reliable equipment, we encourage you to apply.
Please note: This is a diesel mechanic position, not an entry-level field service or general maintenance position. Candidates must have practical diesel engine repair experience to be considered.
